What’s in our name?

Everything.

FICTIVE KIN

I am an unapologetic word nerd who loves to mess around with words and their meanings.

“Fictive Kin” is a reminder that humans make sense of the world by creating stories, or “fictions”.

Many of our society’s most enduring fictions have been inherited from a (colonial) worldview that is at odds with the goals of equity.

But when we remember that these exclusionary fictions are, you know, fiction, then we can use this knowledge to disrupt their influence and reduce their power.

EQUITY LAB

As far as I’m concerned, if you want to make the world more inclusive, humane, and just, there’s no such thing as knowing too much.

“Equity Lab” describes my approach towards helping clients build their capacity to effect substantive, sustainable, social change.

I deliberately take a learning orientation, with a suite of coaching, community, and consulting services that prioritize critical thinking, personal reflection, and an experimental mindset where asking the right questions is as important as getting the “right” answers.
